Ahhh, Now I See The Light. I Just Can't Reach It.

Choosing New Home Upgrades

It happens. Just about every new home project I have seen around Atlanta features that one light fixture positioned in a foyer, hallway, vaulted living room or even on the outside of the house that is 20 feet from the floor. And one day, you will have to replace those light bulbs.
Pay close attention to where your home builder has placed their light fixtures, specifically in stairwells. An overhead light might provide plenty of light for dark areas but until you have climbed a ladder positioned on stairs in order to change a 20 foot high light bulb, you may not fully grasp what I am saying.
If you find an indoor light fixture of this nature, simply ask the builder to move the light fixture to an area that is easy to reach or have them install a wall sconce instead. If you have outdoor floodlights, reposition the lights to areas with level ground or underneath a window where you can reach outside to change the bulb. You can position the outdoor floodlight to the side of the window but I find that by positioning them underneath an upper level window, it helps to keep light from shining into your bedroom, especially if you have motion detectors.
