    I am putting the word out there for anyone looking for or who knows of anyone looking for a beautiful doggie.

    Her name is Barkley. She is a 6 year old Boxer mix, black and white, with big beautiful brown eyes…weighing in at 60 lbs…fully grown. She is completely potty trained, house trained (has always lived inside), knows sit, stay, lay, is great on a leash, and is very loving and affectionate. She has a very gentle and nurturing spirit.

    She was on her way to to a shelter cause her mommy’s boyfriend doesn’t like doggies…and is uncomfortable with animals (and people too in my opinion…but thats another issue) We think she should trade in the boyfriend instead, but again another story…so she really needs a good new home.

    She was living full time with an 8 mnth old and did great. The baby would crawl under her and try to use Barkley to help her stand up… Needless to say, She’s extremely gentle with children!  She has also lived with a dog and cats for a period of time but not consistently. She hasn’t had tons of interaction with many other animals…but hasn’t ever had a bad experience with any either. She wasn’t taken around to play much with other animals in the last year to two years so she just needs some playmates. She is very playful for a 6 year old…not mischevious (she doesn’t tear things up or get into things) just playful.

    She is in great health. She is not fixed at the moment as her owner never got around to it…but the owner will pay for her to get fixed (all costs associated) as well as the first vet visit. 

    Barkley does get an occassional ear infection…she is on natural store bought remedy for this and it isn’t an all the time thing.

    Really she just needs some good TLC.

    Please let me know if any of you or someone you know might be interested. She is an amazing girl that really deserves a wonderful home with a loving family. Or if you know of anyone who might be able to foster her until she finds a new home. I unfortunately am unable to foster much longer due to my travel schedule in the next few weeks and for because 5 animals is my max. for indoor animals, so a great foster home would be much appreciated as well. She will be a blessing to who new family!!

    Cobb County Water Program Receives Achievement Award

    (Marietta, Ga. – August 10, 2006) - The Cobb County Water System has received a 2006 Achievement Award from the National Association of Counties (NACo) for its Water Efficiency Program. The Water Efficiency Program was launched in March 2005 to assist Cobb County’s customers with saving water and lowering their water bills. The program offers county residents a variety of programs and materials to help lower water consumption.

    “The Water Efficiency Program was recognized for this award because of its leadership in the metro region on an idea that is both vitally important to our customers and relatively new in the southeast - the need to protect the availability of water for today’s needs and future generations,” said Bob Brice, director of the Cobb County Water System.

    NACo’s Achievement Award is a non-competitive program that recognizes counties for creative and innovative program development and implementation, efficient administrative management of county agencies and responsible government to local citizens. The awards are given in more than 20 categories. This year’s winners represent 27 states and 95 countries.

    “I continue to be amazed at the innovation and efficiency that counties have developed to address the new issues and problems they are facing. This year’s programs did an especially good job of doing more with less” said Jacqueline Byers, NACo Director of Research.

    The recognition of the Cobb County Water Efficiency Program as a NACo Achievement Award winner is consistent with Cobb County’s commitment to responsible stewardship of our water resources.

    Vinings Village has quickly become the next Buckhead for residential homebuyers.

    Fulton County property taxes combined with City of Atlanta taxes are enough to make any homebuyer cringe. However, Vinings Village has quickly becoming an alternative for the high-end homebuyer looking in the $500k+ market. The main advantage to Vinings Village is the ability to maintain an in-town lifestyle without an in-town price tag.

    First – where is Vinings Village?

    As you head North on Paces Ferry Rd through the winding Buckhead neighborhoods, Paces Ferry will eventually cross over the Chattahoochee River. It is at this point where Fulton County taxes stop and Cobb County taxes begins. Yet the area still maintains an Atlanta address – without the City of Atlanta tax.

    There is absolutely no distinction between the residential Buckhead neighborhoods you are leaving and Vinings Village short of a small sign marking the transition. Vinings Village is simply a collection of small neighborhoods on either side of Paces Ferry Road. This stretch is only a few miles and quickly dead ends into the Historic Vinings Village area.

    As you pull off the main road to explore these small neighborhoods, you will quickly notice a striking similarity between Chastain Park neighborhoods and Vinings Village. Time has allowed a thick and older growth of vegetation to take root providing the neighborhoods with a classic feel void of touch by any contemporary residential developer.

    The homes are truly a mish-mash of styles from your typically 1960s ranch to your typical Buckhead McMansion built with a touch of French impressionism. You will find the occasional contemporary “artist’s” home built with unconventional materials, or perhaps your classic Cape Cod style – all on the same block. The one consistent theme within Vinings Village is the lack of consistency in home design. Which, personally, I think is great.

    However, change is underway for Vinings Village. If you have spent any time driving around Chastain Park, there is a massive push by developers to buy up older homes and replace them with multi-million dollar mansions. For existing homeowners with large lots, this can turn into a million dollar opportunity just for selling their home. For developers, the ability to build a modern home in a neighborhood that already features a natural and lush landscape is a dream.

    With rising interests rates, home builders of these mansions have started to refocus their search from Buckhead over to Vinings Village where a similar piece of land can be had for about half the cost. Development is obvious and asking prices for single-family homes have seen about a 50% increase since 1999.

    But I would not expect demand for homes in Vinings Village to drop off anytime soon. You will find very few “for sale” signs in Vinings Village and even fewer people who feel pressed to sell. There is limited inventory and excessive demand, especially from developers. If you are looking to make a transition from Buckhead to Vinings Village, your time is probably pretty limited.
