Vinings Georgia
Atlanta, Smyrna, Cumberland Mall & Galleria
Where is Vinings? It was only a few months back that a friend of mine was excited about a new community of single family homes he found in Vinings for under $300k. After a few moments of doubtful wonder, I asked for some greater detail - were they really condos, perhaps townhomes or maybe even small cluster homes under 1,200 square feet? He then explained in both great and extensive detail the driving directions required to find this community. You see, first you follow I-285 down to South Cobb Drive, head over to the East/West Connector and go about five miles. Then you make a left right before the Lowes in Mabelton and head out about another five miles and it will be on your right. Mabelton?
From a marketing standpoint, the word Vinings has become an irresistible addition to any community name where a builder feels that a little mark-up on their home prices are in order. Even if that home is located just near the Alabama/Georgia border.
Communities in Smyrna have also caught wind of this trend and you may occasionally run across the term Smynings which typical refers to any community bordering Vinings but still located in Smyrna. At some point in the 80s, National Geographics Magazine labeled Smyrna the worst town in the United States and for some reason, that stigma stuck. Of course today, Smyrna residents are seeing unprecedented home value growth, a combination of sweeping renovation, reforms, new construction and just plain growth. Still, Vinings just seems cooler.
Historic Vinings is really not much more than a mile or two radius located near the intersection of Paces Ferry Rd. and the train tracks. Click here for a map.
While this map represents Historic Vinings, the boundaries actually extend a little further:
North: Railroad Tracks in the Vinings Village
South: Chattahoochee River
East: Cobb Parkway/Highway 41
West: South Atlanta Road
